Built for the home orchard
Lifestyle block mowing: small blocks get overlooked. We don’t skip them.
A few rows of vines or a paddock of fruit trees on a lifestyle block can get away from you fast, especially once access between the rows disappears under grass and you can’t get the mower, ute or wheelbarrow through anymore. A lot of contractors are set up for large commercial operations and won’t look twice at a small job; we’re just as happy doing a handful of rows on a quarter-acre as a whole block. Paddock mowing works the same way: long, rank grass and scrub mown and mulched, whether it’s a one-off clear or regular visits through the growing season.
The right equipment for your property
Our commercial 4×4 flail mowers are well suited to mowing long grass, kikuyu and overgrown vegetation across suitable paddocks, lifestyle blocks, orchards and vineyard rows. For difficult-access areas and suitable sloping terrain, our remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment provides another option. We assess the vegetation, ground conditions and available access before selecting the most appropriate machine. Learn how a flail mower compares with a conventional slasher.

Home orchards
Home orchard mowing for fruit trees on a lifestyle block, kept tidy and accessible.
Small vineyards
Vineyard mowing for a few rows or a hobby vineyard, mown between the vines without needing commercial-scale gear.
Paddocks & long grass
Paddock mowing for long grass, rank kikuyu and weeds, whether you need a one-off tidy-up or regular lifestyle block maintenance to keep the growth under control.
Why it matters
Undergrowth clearing: overgrown rows are more than an access problem.
Long grass and unmanaged undergrowth around fruit trees and vines don’t just make a block hard to walk through, they create cover for the exact pests that go after your crop. Rats and mice will nest in thick, grassy ground cover and climb into trees to get at ripening fruit; slugs, snails and other unwanted insects thrive in damp, overgrown undergrowth; and dense growth around the base of trees and vines cuts down airflow, which can encourage fungal and disease pressure. Keeping the ground mown isn’t just about being able to get through, it’s part of protecting the crop itself.
Rodents & pests
Thick grass gives rats and mice cover to nest and easy access up into fruit-bearing branches.
Slugs & snails
Damp, overgrown ground cover is exactly the habitat they favour.
Airflow & disease
Dense undergrowth around trunks and vines reduces airflow, which can encourage fungal problems.
How we work your block
Paddock and orchard mowing in three steps, sized to your block.
01
Walk the block
We assess the vegetation, ground conditions and machinery access across your paddocks, orchards or vineyard rows before selecting the most suitable equipment.
02
Mow to the line
Our commercial 4×4 flail mowers cut and mulch long grass, kikuyu and overgrowth across suitable paddocks and between orchard or vineyard rows. We work within the practical limits of the machinery to avoid crowding trees, vines and other obstacles.
03
Keep it manageable
A one-off tidy-up, or a regular visit, whichever keeps your block from getting away from you again.
Paddocks or rows getting away on you?
Send us your property’s location, a few photos and roughly how big the area is. We’ll assess whether the job suits our machinery and explain the next steps.
No sprays
Orchard and vineyard mowing without herbicide.
A lot of orchard and vineyard ground is kept down with a sprayed strip along the rows. It works, but it means handling chemicals around fruit you plan to eat and leaving bare ground under the trees. Mowing is vegetation control without the chemicals: it keeps a low, living ground cover instead, with the clippings mulched back in place. The wine industry is looking at the same question: New Zealand’s Bragato Research Institute has been trialling mowing, cultivation and mulches as alternatives to herbicide under the vine.
On a lifestyle block, regular orchard mowing through the growing season is usually enough to keep rows walkable and pest cover down. If things have gone further, with blackberry through the rows or scrub creeping in from the boundary, we can clear that first. See land clearing and gorse and blackberry clearing. Trees or vines on a steep bank? Our slope mowing gear handles that too.

Where we work
Paddock and lifestyle block mowing across Auckland, Northland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty
We provide paddock, orchard and vineyard mowing across four regions, helping lifestyle block owners manage long grass, kikuyu and overgrown vegetation without herbicide spraying. That includes rural and coastal lifestyle blocks in Northland, orchards and lifestyle blocks around Auckland, rural blocks and paddock margins in the Waikato, and orchard margins and lifestyle blocks in the Bay of Plenty. Every job is quoted on its own, and here is what affects the price.
Common questions
Paddock and lifestyle block mowing, answered.
How close to the trunks and vines can you mow?
We take care working close to trunks and vines, and we’ll talk through your row spacing before we start so the machine suits your block.
Is this only for big commercial orchards and vineyards?
No, most of our orchard and vineyard mowing is for lifestyle blocks and home growers with a handful of rows or trees, not large commercial operations. If it’s overgrown and you can’t get through anymore, that’s exactly what this service is for.
Is this a one-off job or an ongoing service?
Either. Some lifestyle blocks need a one-off tidy-up when the grass and weeds have become overgrown, while others benefit from regular mowing throughout the growing season. Growth is often faster during spring and early summer, so mowing frequency depends on the season, vegetation and conditions on your property.
Do you work with both orchards and vineyards?
Yes, fruit trees on a lifestyle block and small or hobby vineyards, across Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Northland.
How much does paddock or orchard mowing cost?
Pricing depends on the size of the area, vegetation density, ground conditions, slope and machinery access. We quote each job individually rather than using a flat rate. See what affects the price. Send us your property’s location, a few photographs and an approximate area, and we’ll help you understand what’s involved.
Do you mow overgrown paddocks on lifestyle blocks?
Yes. We mow and mulch long grass, rank kikuyu and weeds across suitable lifestyle block paddocks, leaving the cut vegetation on the ground as mulch. We provide both one-off mowing and regular maintenance. If your property has become heavily overgrown with gorse, blackberry or dense scrub, our land clearing service may be more appropriate.
What size paddocks and lifestyle blocks do you mow?
We work on everything from smaller lifestyle block paddocks and orchard rows to larger areas requiring commercial mowing equipment. Suitability depends on the vegetation, terrain, ground conditions and machinery access.
Can you mow wet or soft ground?
Not always. Very soft or boggy ground is unsuitable for our machinery, and mowing in these conditions can damage the ground surface. We assess conditions before starting and may postpone the work until the ground has firmed up sufficiently.
How do I get a quote, and how should I prepare?
Send us your property’s location, a few photographs and an approximate area requiring mowing. Please identify any hidden hazards, including fencing wire, waratahs, irrigation lines, rocks, holes or other obstacles. Livestock should be moved out of the work area, and gates and access routes should be clear before mowing begins. Larger or more complicated jobs may require a site visit before quoting.
