Waikato · Hamilton, Hauraki & the King Country

Waikato land clearing across open farmland, hill country and the Coromandel.

From rough paddocks and lifestyle blocks around Hamilton and the Hauraki Plains to steep hill country further south and difficult rural properties through Thames and Coromandel, we cut and mulch overgrown vegetation with commercial 4×4 flail mowers and remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment, whether it’s clearing overgrown farmland, an overgrown section or ongoing vegetation management.

Farm to hill country

Waikato properties can change from open paddock to difficult hill country fast.

Across Central Waikato, lifestyle blocks, farms and rural-residential properties often have a mix of open paddocks, long grass, kikuyu and neglected margins that ordinary mowing can keep up with, until scrub, blackberry or steep ground starts taking over. Around Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Morrinsville, the difficult part of a job is often not the open ground but the banks, gullies, fence margins and awkward corners around it.

Further east and north, rural properties around Matamata, Huntly and Ngāruawāhia bring their own mix of paddocks, regrowth and uneven ground. South toward Te Kūiti and Ōtorohanga, steeper country becomes more common, while Thames and Coromandel can combine rural access constraints with steep or awkward terrain. That variety is why we assess each property before choosing between our commercial 4×4 flail mowers and remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment: gorse, blackberry, kikuyu, woolly nightshade, long grass and scrub are handled according to the vegetation, terrain, ground conditions and access.

The Hauraki Plains are a different job again. Around Ngatea and Paeroa the land is mostly flat, drained farmland, so overgrowth tends to build up along drain margins, fence lines and paddock corners rather than on slopes. Some low-lying ground can stay soft after wet weather, so we check ground conditions before confirming that our machinery is suitable.

Some of what grows on Waikato farms is a rules issue as well as a practical one. Waikato Regional Council’s Regional Pest Management Plan sets out the rules for pest plants in the region and what landowners and occupiers need to do about them. Mechanical mulching is one way to control suitable pest plants without herbicide, but it doesn’t on its own satisfy every obligation in the plan, so check the rules that apply to your property. We also handle tree privet removal along suitable hedgerows and bush edges.

Matched to the ground

The right machine for the paddock, bank or hill in front of us.

Waikato properties can look straightforward from the road and still contain the parts ordinary mowing equipment can’t deal with: a steep bank behind the paddock, a gully filling with scrub, uneven ground, or an access point that limits which machine can get in. We choose between our commercial 4×4 flail mowers and remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment according to the vegetation, terrain, ground conditions and access, and we’ll tell you if any area isn’t suitable. Very soft or boggy ground can’t be worked with our machinery. Our flail mowing and mulching services page explains how both machine types work.

Good to know

What Waikato landowners ask us about land clearing.

Do you cover the whole Waikato region?

We work across most of the Waikato on suitable farms and lifestyle blocks: Hamilton and Central Waikato, Raglan, Northern Waikato, the Matamata area, the Hauraki Plains, Thames and Coromandel, the northern King Country, Tokoroa and Taupō. Travel to more remote properties depends on location, access and job scope.

Do you work on the Hauraki Plains and Coromandel?

Yes. We service suitable rural and lifestyle properties around Ngatea, Paeroa and Waihi, as well as Thames, Whitianga and the wider Coromandel. Send the property location plus photos of the access, terrain and vegetation so we can confirm availability.

Do you deal with gorse and blackberry on Waikato farms?

Yes. We cut and mulch suitable gorse and blackberry on paddock margins, hill faces and overgrown rural land with our commercial 4×4 flail mowers and remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment. Some regrowth is likely, so follow-up mowing may be needed.

Do you mow steep Waikato properties?

Yes, where the site suits our machinery. Our commercial 4×4 flail mowers work suitable rolling ground, and our remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment handles suitable steeper hill faces, gully sides and banks. We assess the terrain and ground conditions first.

How much does land clearing cost in Waikato?

Each Waikato job is quoted individually. The price depends on the size of the area, the type and density of vegetation, the terrain and ground conditions, access to the work area and travel, which matters more for Coromandel, King Country and Taupō properties. Our land clearing cost guide explains what affects the price. Send us the location, a few photos and an approximate area for a quote.

How should I prepare my property for land clearing?

Show us the area you want cleared and let us know about any hidden hazards, such as fencing wire, waratahs, rocks, holes, drains or old rubbish. Point out any trees, plantings or vegetation you want protected, and tell us how a machine reaches the work area, including gates, races, tracks and culverts.

What vegetation can you clear?

Gorse and blackberry on paddock edges, kikuyu and long grass, woolly nightshade, privet and scrub, depending on the density of growth, terrain and access.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The property location and photos of the vegetation, terrain and access. For hill-country jobs, a wide shot of the slope helps us judge which machine to bring.
