Very soft or boggy ground isn’t suitable for our machinery.

One crew, mixed ground
Land mulching for the mixed ground on your property.
Most properties aren’t one kind of ground. A lifestyle block might have a flat paddock, a steep bank behind the house, an overgrown gully and a fence line that’s disappeared under gorse. Most contractors can handle one of those. As a specialist mulching contractor, we bring machinery suited to each part of the property, and we’ll tell you if any area isn’t suitable.
Land mulching cuts vegetation down and shreds it where it stands. The mulch stays on the ground as cover while it breaks down, so there’s no raking, no cart-away and no burn pile, whether the job is flat pasture or a hill face.
That’s how we approach flail mowing and land mulching: one approach to vegetation management, with suitable machinery matched to each part of the job.

Flat & open ground
Long grass, scrub and overgrowth on open and rolling ground, cut and mulched by our commercial 4×4 flail mowers.
Steep & sloping ground
Suitable banks, batters and gullies, using remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment where the terrain suits it.
Rough & hard-to-reach ground
Machine scrub cutting on uneven or overgrown ground with suitable machinery access. We assess ground conditions first, as very soft or boggy ground isn’t suitable.
How we work
Flail mowing and land mulching in three steps.
Every property is a mix of vegetation, gradient, ground conditions and access. We look at all four before we choose a machine, so we can plan the work around the conditions.
01
Enquiry and site assessment
Tell us about the job. Send us the location and a few photos, then we check what’s growing, the terrain, how firm the ground is and how a machine gets in, including gates and tracks.
02
Match the machine
The right machine for each area. Our commercial 4×4 flail mowers handle appropriate open, rolling and uneven ground, while our remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment suits steeper and difficult-to-access terrain where conditions allow. We choose based on the vegetation, terrain, ground conditions and access.
03
Mulch it in place
Mulched in place. Suitable vegetation is cut and mulched where it stands, leaving usable ground that’s easier to keep on top of. Some vegetation can regrow, so ongoing maintenance may be needed.
Rough ground getting away on you?
Tell us where the property is, roughly how much ground needs mowing and what the vegetation and access are like. A few photos will help us assess the job and provide a quote.
What we clear
What our flail mowers and mulching equipment clear.
Long grass, kikuyu, scrub, bracken and other overgrown vegetation, plus pest plants such as gorse and blackberry, woolly nightshade and privet, cut and mulched mechanically without a chemical programme.
On flatter rural ground, land mulching helps reclaim overgrown paddocks and fence lines; see land clearing. For overgrown residential sections, see section clearing. On steep ground, WorkSafe’s tractor safety guidance advises against tractor work, which is why we use remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment for suitable slope mowing. For scheduled maintenance on lifestyle blocks, orchards and vineyards, see lifestyle block mowing.
Every job is quoted on its own, and here is what affects the price.

Where we work

Common questions
Flail mowing and land mulching, answered.
What is land mulching?
Land mulching uses a flail mower to cut vegetation and shred it into mulch that stays on site. It clears overgrowth without spraying, burning or carting green waste away, and the mulch protects the soil while it breaks down.
What kind of ground can you work on?
Rough, uneven, overgrown and hard-to-reach ground, from open paddocks to suitable banks and gullies, using our commercial 4×4 flail mowers and remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment. We assess the vegetation, terrain, ground conditions and access first. Very soft or boggy ground isn’t suitable, and we’ll tell you if any area can’t be done safely.
Do you do brush cutting?
We do machine brush cutting and scrub cutting with our flail mowing equipment. We don’t use handheld brushcutters: on larger or steeper areas our machines are faster and keep people off the slope.
Can you mow steep hills and banks?
Often, yes. Our remote-controlled tracked mowing equipment can work suitable steep banks and hill faces once we’ve assessed the site. See how we mow steep banks.
How much does land mulching cost?
It depends on the size of the area, how dense the growth is, the terrain, ground conditions and access, so we quote per job rather than off a flat rate. See what affects the price. Send us a few photos and roughly how big the area is, and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What’s the difference between flail mowing and slashing?
A flail mower uses rows of small swinging blades that cut and shred long grass and scrub into fine mulch, while a slasher uses larger rotating blades and is better suited to routine grass topping. Our flail mower vs slasher guide explains the differences in more detail.
Can you mow wet or soft ground?
Not always. Very soft or boggy ground isn’t suitable for our machinery, and working it can damage the ground surface. We assess the site conditions before confirming whether our equipment is suitable, and the work may need to wait until the ground firms up.
How should I prepare for flail mowing or mulching?
Show us the area that needs clearing and tell us about any hidden hazards, such as fencing wire, waratahs, rocks, holes, rubbish or underground services. Point out any plants or vegetation you want protected, and make sure there’s suitable access for our machinery. Sending the location, a few photos and an approximate area helps us prepare an accurate quote.
